An Invitation for Victorian Carers to Participate in a Study Concerning their Health and Wellbeing The Chronic Illness Alliance has worked steadily to highlight the situation and needs of individuals and families living with a Chronic Illness. The work and commitment of you as a carer forms a vital part in supporting your relative or friend as they seek to manage their chronic illness. In this study the Chronic Illness Alliance and researchers from La Trobe University, School of Public Health hope to better understand your practical situation as a carer, and the impact of caring on your health and wellbeing. Your input in providing information for the survey would be most appreciated and may be used in future submissions made by the Chronic Illness Alliance to relevant government departments regarding carers' issues in caring for their relative or friend with a chronic illness. Knowing that your time is valuable, the survey, a written questionnaire, is expected to take about 25-35 minutes to complete. Areas explored are your carer's role, your general health and wellbeing, and a section that allows for self-reflection on your caring role. Confidentiality and anonymity is assured. If you choose to participate in this study your responses will form an important contribution in identifying carers' health status and informing the health sector of carer supports and services needed. A 2-year study is about to commence in Victoria. Researchers will interview 200 people who used to have serious problems associated with their use of drugs. The research will explore how people are changing, finding solutions and how they have resolved their drug use problems. The recovery experience -to date, virtually nothing is known about the recovery experiences of individuals who have successfully resolved their problematic drug use and more importantly how they did it. This study is a partnership between people who have "lived experience" of addiction and recovery and research scientists. The one-off 2-3 hour interviews will be carried out by people who also have "personal experience". Your confidentiality will be strictly maintained. Participants will be compensated for their time.
